Here we go. Another Avengers: Endgame post. Yesterday, in my last post, I mentioned that I wanted to write another Endgame post for today. Mission accomplished! Unless I abandon this right now and decide to post it tomorrow. No! I wanted to write three Endgame posts, and I’m currently on track! Yesterday I wrote “Preparing For Avengers: Endgame and Happy Belated Easter!”, today I’m writing “Avengers: Endgame — Who Will Survive?”, and tomorrow I’m hoping to write Avengers: Endgame. We’ll see if that works out!
I want to jump right into this one, but first, let me give you a guide to who survived the snap (A.K.A. the Decimation and/or the “snappening”) in Infinity War. Here you go:
Tony Stark/Iron Man: Alive
Thor: Alive
Bruce Banner/Hulk: Alive
Steve Rogers/Captain America: Alive
Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow: Alive
Clint Barton/Hawkeye: Survived
Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange: Dusted
Peter Parker/Spider-Man: Dusted
T'Challa/Black Panther: Dusted
Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel: Alive
Scott Lang/Ant-Man: Alive (but trapped in the Quantum Realm)
Hope van Dyne/Wasp: Dusted
Rhodey Rhodes/War Machine: Alive
Vision: Dead (but not dusted)
Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch: Dusted
Sam Wilson/Falcon: Dusted
Bucky Barnes/White Wolf: Dusted
Peter Quill/Star-Lord: Dusted
Gamora: Dead (but not dusted)
Drax: Dusted
Mantis: Dusted
Groot: Dusted
Rocket: Alive
Nebula: Alive
Nick Fury: Dusted
Maria Hill: Dusted
Loki: Dead (but not dusted)
Heimdall: Dead (but not dusted)
Okoye: Alive
Shuri: Dusted
Pepper Potts: Alive
Happy Hogan: Alive
Wong: Alive
Valkyrie: Alive
Korg: Alive
Jane Foster: Alive
Erik Selvig: Dusted
Hank Pym: Dusted
Janet van Dyne: Dusted
Aunt May Parker: Alive
There’s your guide for you, but before we start the percentage of who’s going to die in Endgame, here’s the ranking of who’s most likely to be revived in Endgame due to the snap.
- Spider-Man
- Nick Fury
- Maria Hill
- Black Panther
- Doctor Strange
- Gamora
- Star-Lord
- Vision
- Scarlet Witch
- Falcon
- White Wolf
- Shuri
- Wasp
- Groot
- Mantis
- Drax
- Hank Pym
- Janet van Dyne
- Erik Selvig
- Loki
- Heimdall
I’m really sure that everyone will be revived in Endgame besides Loki and Heimdall. They just seem like characters that don’t have any reason to come back. Plus, Loki already “fake died” in Thor: The Dark World, so I don’t think they would do that again.
Now moving onto the sad part. Everybody who went to the premiere said to bring tissues, so that hints at some pretty sad moments, and possibly deaths. So, let’s move onto the death toll! I will be ranking eighteen characters based on how likely they are to be destroyed by Thanos . . . or maybe somebody else? Beware, if I’m right about this, there will be major spoilers, so look at your own risk!
18. Happy Hogan
Actor: Jon Favreau
Appearances: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War
(deleted scene), Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home (upcoming)
Affiliations: Stark Industries; Avengers
Last Seen: In a park with Tony and Pepper agonizing over having to go to court (deleted scene)
Percentage of Being Killed: 10%
No, I do not believe Happy Hogan is going to die. We’ve already seen him in the trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, and he’s quite obviously alive. Now, of course, if Far From Home is set in some different multiverse, he would probably die, but Far From Home is set in Europe so that’s out of the running. Who knows, Happy could die early in the movie, and they would revive him later. It’s possible.
17. Korg
Actor: Taika Waititi
Appearances: Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Sakaraan Rebellion
Last Seen: On the Statesman as Thanos' ship approaches
Percentage of Being Killed: 15%
Ah, yes! I was so excited when I heard that Korg and Miek were officially returning in Endgame yesterday. So we know that Valkyrie, Korg, and Miek all survived the attack on the Statesman when Thanos destroyed half of the ship. The reason why I don’t think he’ll die is because . . . he’s Korg. The MCU can’t do that to us. He’s such a lovable character, I would be extremely surprised if they killed him off. So he’s safe.
16. Rocket Raccoon
Actor: Bradley Cooper (voice) and Sean Gunn (motion-capture)
Appearances: Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War,
Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Guardians of the Galaxy; Avengers
Last Seen: In Wakanda with the surviving Avengers after seeing Groot turn to dust
Percentage of Being Killed: 20%
I’m just gonna come right out and say that the MCU is not going to kill Rocket off. They decided to dust the adorable creature of Groot in Infinity War, but they will not do that to another adorable animal, such as the talking raccoon Rocket, whose real name is actually Project 89P13. Plus, they could not do Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without him, so he’s definitely safe.
15. Brunnhilde/Valkyrie
Actress: Tessa Thompson
Appearances: Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Valkyries (formerly); Revengers (formerly)
Last Seen: On the Statesman as Thanos' ship approaches
Percentage of Being Killed: 25%
Valkyrie, like Korg, is rather new to the MCU, so I doubt they would kill her off in her second movie. There’s been rumors of an all-female MCU movie, that would consist of her, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Okoye, and other powerful women, and I think she has really good potential, so they’ll keep her on for at least a few more films. She could even get her own TV show on Disney+, as Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon, and White Wolf are getting one, which I’m really excited for.
14. Okoye
Actress: Danai Gurira
Appearances: Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Dora Milaje; Border Tribe
Last Seen: In Wakanda with the surviving Avengers after witnessing Black Panther turn to dust
Percentage of Being Killed: 25%
This is kind of the same reason as Valkyrie. Okoye is a relatively new character to the MCU, and she has great potential to be in a lot of other films/shows, so I don’t think she will die. But then again, she’s a warrior and the leader of the Dora Milaje, so it’s possible that the filmmakers wanted to make a bold move and kill her off. But I’m sticking with my gut, which says that she’s going to survive.
13. Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel
Actress: Brie Larson
Appearances: Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: United States Air Force (formerly); Starforce (formerly)
Last Seen: Asking the Avengers where Nick Fury is in a Captain Marvel post-credits scene
Percentage of Being Killed: 30%
Captain Marvel is probably the newest MCU character, and also the MCU character with the most potential. I keep saying that these characters have “potential”, but Captain Marvel is an incredibly important character. I actually saw Captain Marvel in the theater, and it was awesome! The mid-credits scene (*spoiler alert!*) took place during the beginning of Endgame, with Captain Marvel showing up at the Avengers headquarters. But, anyway, if you looked at my last post, you’ll know that I think that Captain Marvel is actually going to die in the first fifteen to twenty minutes. That’s the reason I put her up here, but I do believe that she will be revived later in the film with the rest of the fallen Avengers.
12. Scott Lang/Ant-Man
Actor: Paul Rudd
Appearances: Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Vistacorp (formerly); Baskin-Robbins (formerly); X-Con Security Consultants; Avengers
Last Seen: In the Quantum Realm as Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Hank Pym, and Janet van Dyne turn to dust,
leaving him trapped in the Realm
Percentage of Being Killed: 30%
There’s a very slight possibility that Ant-Man could die in this. I doubt it, but it could happen. Or he could die early in the film like Captain Marvel, and they would bring him back. The reason he may die is because Ant-Man 3 hasn’t been announced yet, or any other film that he could appear in. So he doesn’t necessarily have potential, but he could still survive, which I think he will.
11. Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
Actress: Scarlett Johansson
Appearances: Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron,
Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok (footage), Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel (post-credits
scene), Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Red Room (formerly); KGB (formerly); S.H.I.E.L.D. (formerly); STRIKE Team: Delta (formerly);
Hammer Industries (formerly; undercover); Avengers
Last Seen: Examining Nick Fury's pager at the Avengers headquarters as Captain Marvel arrives
Percentage of Being Killed: 35%
I would think that Black Widow would be killed in Endgame if it weren’t for the Black Widow film releasing in Phase Four. The Black Widow film could be a prequel, but I really don’t want it to be, and I don’t think it will be. But if it is a prequel, then Black Widow could easily be killed off. She’s been in a lot of MCU films, and she’s come a long way, so it seems fair that she would die in this, but then again, Black Widow has to release. But my guess is that she will survive.
10. Pepper Potts
Actress: Gwyneth Paltrow
Appearances: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming,
Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Stark Industries
Last Seen: Calling Tony and telling him to get back to Earth
Percentage of Being Killed: 40%
Pepper’s fate depends on Tony’s fate. If he dies, she’ll probably die. If he lives, she’ll definitely live. I really hope that she suits up in an Iron Man suit to have some action sequences in this film, but I’m not sure if that’ll happen. My guess is that she’s safe, but then again, she isn’t planned to be in any upcoming MCU movies, so who knows?
9. Wong
Actor: Benedict Wong
Appearances: Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Masters of the Mystic Arts
Last Seen: Returning to the New York Sanctum to protect it
Percentage of Being Killed: 45%
I think that it’s possible that Wong could die in this film. However, it would leave a gaping hole in the Doctor Strange sequel, and he “fake died” in Doctor Strange, so it’s also possible that he’ll survive. I don’t think he’ll have a very big role in the film, but who knows what direction they could take him in? Maybe they’ll end up doing something neat with him, and he’ll survive.
8. Rhodey Rhodes/War Machine
Actor: Don Cheadle/Terrence Howard (in Iron Man)
Appearances: Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War,
Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel (post-credits scene), Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: MIT (formerly); United States Air Force; Avengers
Last Seen: In Wakanda with the surviving Avengers after accepting Falcon's death
Percentage of Being Killed: 50%
I really don’t want War Machine to die. He’s one of my favorite MCU characters, and I think that Don Cheadle plays the role perfectly. And I’m super glad that he survived the snappening, since he’s never really had his time besides in Iron Man 2, but that was in 2010. I could definitely see him dying, but I also don’t want him to. I think his odds are even here, but I’m kind of leaning towards the surviving side, because Don Cheadle was on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and he said he wasn’t allowed to discuss if he was going to get a movie or TV series for his character, but I think a TV show is possible.
7. Clint Barton/Hawkeye/Ronin
Actor: Jeremy Renner
Appearances: Thor (cameo), The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: S.H.I.E.L.D. (formerly); STRIKE Team: Delta (formerly); Avengers
Last Seen: In prison with his other allies talking to Tony
Percentage of Being Killed: 50%
We haven’t seen Hawkeye since 2016 in Civil War, so it’s exciting to see him again in this. Like War Machine, he hasn’t really had his time to shine, but it seems like they’re going to give him that in this film as it looks like he’s going to assume the identity of the assassin Ronin like in the comic books. Jeremy Renner was also on Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently, and he tried to avert the conversation topic of Ronin, so it seems quite possible that he will die. I think that he would definitely die in this if it weren’t for a TV show he’s getting on Disney+. Like the Black Widow film, it could be a prequel, but I don’t think it will. We’ll see, I guess!
6. Bruce Banner/Hulk
Actor: Mark Ruffalo/Edward Norton ( in The Incredible Hulk)
Appearances: The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers, Iron Man 3 (post-credits scene), Avengers: Age of Ultron,
Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel (post-credits scene), Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Harvard University (formerly); Culver University (formerly); Pingo Doce Bottling Plant (formerly);
Revengers (formerly); Avengers
Last Seen: In Wakanda in the Hulkbuster uniform with the surviving Avengers
Percentage of Being Killed: 50%
This is another character I’m not sure on. Bruce Banner doesn’t seem like the kind of character that the MCU would kill off, but then again, Endgame has a lot of surprises. Plus, there’s been a span of a Hulk trilogy that started in Thor: Ragnarok and ends with Endgame. I don’t think they would do something clever with the Hulk in this film (which they obviously will), and then just kill him off. It doesn’t seem like MCU. I’m crossing my fingers that he’ll survive!
5. Nebula
Actress: Karen Gillan
Appearances: Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War.
Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers
Last Seen: On Titan with Tony after watching several heroes turn to dust
Percentage of Being Killed: 60%
I thought Nebula was going to die in Infinity War, but she didn’t. So she will in Endgame. She’s come a long way. Since her very first appearance, she’s wanted to kill Thanos, and I think it would be satisfying to see her die trying to accomplish her life goal. I don’t think she’ll actually accomplish it, but she’ll be a major part in the battle against Thanos. She won’t die very early in the film, but possibly in the final battle. Plus, killing her would leave room for some new Guardians of the Galaxy to join the old ones in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
4. Thor
Actor: Chris Hemsworth
Appearances: Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange
(post-credits scene), Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Revengers (formerly); Asgardian Royal Family; Avengers
Last Seen: In Wakanda feeling horrible that he didn't actually kill Thanos
Percentage of Being Killed: 70%
It’s a strong possibility Thor will meet his end in this film. His character has evolved so much, it would be satisfying and sad to see him die. He’s literally lost everything: his mom, dad, brother, sister, and best friend. There’s nothing more he can lose, so it would be interesting to see him – like Nebula – dying while attempting to kill Thanos. Again, if you read my post yesterday, you’ll know I think Thor goes on a mission alone to kill Thanos, and he dies while trying to do it. I hope that isn’t the case, but it’s possible. One reason why he may survive is because there’s talks of a Thor 4. But that all depends on what happens in this movie.
3. Thanos
Actor: Josh Brolin/Damion Poitier (in The Avengers)
Appearances: The Avengers (post-credits scene), The Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron (post-credits scene),
Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: Black Order
Last Seen: Retiring and working on his farm on an unknown planet
Percentage of Being Killed: 80%
Thanos is going to have an important role to play in Endgame to say the least. We have hardly seen any of him in the trailers, so that means they’re keeping him under wraps. We know he still has the damaged Infinity Gauntlet and all of the Infinity Stones, as well as his armor and a new farm. The Avengers are planning to go to him to get the Stones and bring everyone back, but their mission will most likely fail. My theory, which I explained in my last post, is that the Avengers go to Titan to face off against him, he kills Captain Marvel, the Avengers go back to Earth, Thor goes to face Thanos alone and dies, and Thanos goes to Earth to fight the Avengers again. I believe he will die in this sequence, but if he doesn’t, he’ll die later in the film. I can’t really see an outcome where he doesn’t die, but he could be turned and see that his view of the universe is wrong. We’ll see if that happens, but I’m not sure.
2. Tony Stark/Iron Man
Actor: Robert Downey Jr.
Appearances: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk (post-credits scene), Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3,
Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War,
Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: MIT (formerly); S.H.I.E.L.D. (formerly); Damage Control; Stark Industries; Avengers
Last Seen: On Titan injured by Thanos after seeing others turn to dust
Percentage of Being Killed: 85%
Tony Stark’s death has been teased up to this point in the Endgame trailers. They’re basically shadowing his fate, and they may be trying to mislead us. He’s going to have a very interesting ending for sure. Whether he retires and decides to finally spend time with Pepper for the rest of his life, I don’t know. Either that, or he dies in the fight against Thanos. I really don’t want to see Iron Man die, but it’s quite possible that he will. Tony is our runner up, but our number one person is:
1. Steve Rogers/Captain America
Actor: Chris Evans
Appearances: Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World (as Loki), Captain America:
The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming (cameo), Avengers:
Infinity War, Captain Marvel (post-credits scene), Avengers: Endgame
Affiliations: United States Army (formerly); United Service Organizations (formerly); United States Department of the Treasury
(formerly); SSR (formerly); Howling Commandos (formerly); S.H.I.E.L.D. (formerly); Avengers
Last Seen: In Wakanda with the rest of the surviving Avengers accepting defeat
Percentage of Being Killed: 100%
Tony Stark is our runner-up, but Captain America is the winner of this unfortunate battle. Chris Evans has hinted time and time again an emotional ending for his character, and I think that we will see Cap sacrifice himself for his friends in Endgame. He and Tony will reunite, which will no doubt be emotional as well. In my opinion, Cap will definitely die in the final fight, or else he’ll go back in time and live out his days with Peggy Carter. The latter is possible, but I believe it would be more satisfying to see the former.
